Chilka Moong Dal with Sabzi (Split Green Lentil with Veggies)

Ingredients

  • Chilka Moong Dal (split Green Lentil) 1 cup
  • Water 4-5 cups
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chili powder 1/2 tbsp or to taste
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tbsp
  • Chicken stock cube 1 (optional)
  • Garam Masala 1/4 tbsp
  • Coriander powder 3/4 tbsp
  • Yellow bell pepper (or green) 1 chopped
  • Fresh green coriander chopped

For the tarka (tempering)

  • Onion 1 medium (sliced)
  • Desi Ghee (Clarified Butter) 1-2 tbsp
  • Tomato 1 medium, chopped coarsely
  • Green chilies 4-5 split
  • Cumin seeds 1 tbsp

Preparation

  1. Wash the lentil and add to a pot along with the water and turn the flame on.
  2. Add salt, red chili powder and turmeric powder.
  3. Cook until soft.
  4. In a pan, add desi ghee and sliced onions. Cook until the onions are soft.
  5. Add tomatoes, green chilies and cumin seeds. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  6. Add this tempering to the lentil along with bell pepper, chicken cube, garam masala and coriander powder. Cover and cook on low until all are well combined.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve the Chilka Moong Dal with chapati or rice.
  8. Enjoy!

  • Add tomatoes, green chilies and cumin seeds. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  • Add this tempering to the lentil along with bell pepper, chicken cube, garam masala and coriander powder. Cover and cook on low until all are well combined.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander and serve the Chilka Moong Dal with chapati or rice.
