Khatti Meethi Amchur Chutney (Mango Powder Chutney)

Ingredients

  • Amchur powder (mango powder) 1 cup
  • Water 1 cup + 2 cups
  • Salt 3/4 tsp or to taste
  • Red chili powder 1/2 tsp or to taste
  • Cumin powder 2 tsp
  • Garam masala 1 tsp
  • Black salt 3/4 tsp
  • Ginger Powder 1 tsp
  • Sugar 3/4 cup
  • Red food color 1/4 tsp – optional
  • Melon seeds (Chaarmaghaz) 2-3 tbsp – optional

Preparation

  1. In a saucepan, add amchur powder and and 1 cup of water. Mix until lump free.
  2. Add salt, red chili powder, cumin powder, garam masala, black salt, ginger powder, sugar and red food color. Mix and add 2 more cups of water.
  3. Cook on low flame for 3 to 4 minutes until the Chutney is a bit thick in consistency. Please keep in mind that the chutney will be double in thickness once cooled so make sure the consistency is just right.
  4. Take it off the flame and strain through a sieve.
  5. To the strained chutney, add melon seeds and mix.
  6. Store in the refrigerator for 1 month or freezer for 3 months.
  7. Enjoy with your favorite chatpatay snacks or chaats.
