Dahi Fry / Dahi Tadka – Naush Special

Ingredients

  • Yogurt 1 cup
  • Oil 2-3 tbsp
  • Dried red chili (long or round) 2
  • Bay leaves 2
  • Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Onion 1 small, thickly sliced
  • Green chili 1
  • Garlic clove 1
  • Ginger 1 inch
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Kashmiri red chili powder 1/2 tsp (or red chili powder for extra heat)
  • Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1/2 tsp

Preparation

  1. Whisk yogurt until smooth and lump free. Keep aside.
  2. Chop together green chili, garlic and ginger in a hand chopper or grater. Keep aside.
  3. In a pan, add oil, red chilies, bay leaves and cumin seeds, fry on low until aromatic.
  4. Add chopped veggies and sauté until the raw smell of ginger and garlic goes away.
  5. Add onions and sauté until the onions are translucent but still crunchy. Crunchy texture gives nice taste to the dahi fry.
  6. Now add salt, turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, garam masala and coriander powder. Sauté for 30 seconds on low heat and turn the flame off.
  7. Add this mixture to the whisked yogurt and mix well.
  8. Dahi fry is ready.
  9. Enjoy with your favorite paratha, naan or rice dish!
